Breeding Boxes are an essential part of the successful breeding of birds; it is a safe place for them to raise their young where their babies will be warm and protected. It would help if you used a high-quality Breeding Box of the correct size for your parrot, so you don’t create any problems such as chicks falling out of nests.

Regarding Budgies, we recommend a small Budgie Box with a minimum of 25 x 17 x 15cm. For Lovebirds and some of the smaller parrots, we recommend using a Lovebird breeding box with a size of 20 x 17 x 27cm.

Cockatiels, Conures, Lorikeets, Kakarikis, and parrots of a similar size, we recommend using a Medium size Breeding Box  with a size of 17 x 20 x 40cm. For larger parrots such as Alexandrines, Ringnecks and some of the more giant parrots, we recommend using a Parrot breeding box with a minimum size of 25 x 25 x 50cm high.

Most of our parrots use a Parrot Nesting Material for their nest, and it is available in our store and is a mixture of peat moss and wood shavings. By using this type of nesting, the eggs stay moist, and the hatchability rate is a lot higher than using just shavings or sawdust, where the eggs tend to dry out.

Some other parrots prefer to use different materials for their nest. Lovebirds like to use palm fronds; Masked and Fischer Lovebirds carry single strips of this with their beaks. Peach-Faced Lovebirds shred small pieces and tuck them into their back feathers before returning them to their nest.
