Jenday Conure Dietary Requirements

Jenday conures require a balanced diet to thrive, primarily consisting of high-quality pellets, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Pellets should make up about 60-70% of their diet, providing essential nutrients. Fresh produce like leafy greens, carrots, and bell peppers should be offered daily, along with occasional fruits such as apples, berries, and bananas.

Avoid avocado, chocolate, and caffeine, as these can be toxic. Additionally, providing occasional seeds and nuts as treats can enhance their diet, but these should be limited due to high fat content. Fresh, clean water must always be available to keep them hydrated and healthy.

Jenday Conure Cage and Accessories

A cage is vital for your Jenday Conure; there should be enough room for your bird to flap and stretch its wings. Minimum size of 60x60cm is recommended. More importantly, it is a playground or an area that your bird can have freedom.

Jendays need to be out of their cage to be kept the friendliest, and at VBC, we have a variety of playgrounds and stands available.

Breeding Jenday Conures

Jendays are easy to breed. These birds reach maturity at two years of age and breed year-round. They lay 3-5 eggs per clutch with an incubation period of 25-27 days. The chicks leave the nest at around seven weeks and are fully weaned 2-3 weeks later.

A cockatiel-sized nest box lined with parrot nesting material available from VBC is suitable to use for breeding.

If you would like to breed Jenday Conures, we also have nice pairs specifically for breeding. All our pairs come with DNA certificates to prove they are genuine pairs ready to breed.

Jenday Conure Parrots

Jenday conure is native to northeastern Brazil. They are intelligent, colourful parrots that require plenty of mental stimulation and exercise, so add plenty of Parrot Toys. Belonging to the Aratinga family, these active birds can quickly become attached to a specific person and do well with a family.

Jendays are easy to train and can learn to talk well. These birds are medium-sized parrots that can grow up to 30 cm long and live between 15 and 30 years. Their wings and tail are dark green tipped with blue, and their head is yellow with an orange front.

There is no visual difference between males and females. Both Male and Females will talk and make a wonderful pet
