Caique Parrot Dietary Requirements
At Victorian Bird Company, Caique Parrots are fed a balanced diet consisting of:
40% tiny parrot seed, crumbles and pellets
50% fruits and vegetables (carrots, grapes, bananas, bok choy)
10% grains and nuts (such as almonds)
All these items provide essential vitamins and nutrients and are available in our stores.
Caiques must have access to fresh, clean water. Indoor Caiques require a Vitamin D3 and Calcium supplement such as Avian Sunglo, which is also available in-store.

Breeding Caique Parrots
Caique Parrots reach sexual maturity at around three years of age and typically breed in late spring. Females generally lay four eggs, which hatch in roughly three and a half weeks. Chicks leave the nest at about ten weeks and are usually ready for new homes 2–3 weeks later.
A parrot-sized nest box (approximately 30×70 cm) lined with nesting material available from VBC is suitable for breeding.
About the Caique Parrot
The Caique Parrot originates from South America and is known for being intelligent, vibrant and highly playful. They are easy to train and sometimes even train themselves. Caiques are also known for their unique behaviour of lying on their backs with their feet in the air.
They can talk moderately well when taught correctly, grow to around 23 cm, and can live for up to 30 years.
Male and female Caiques look identical. To know a bird’s sex with certainty, a DNA test is recommended.
