Kakariki Dietary Requirements
At Victorian Bird Company, our Kakarikis are fed:
Small parrot seeds
High-quality crumble for protein and essential nutrients
You should also provide a variety of fruits and vegetables, such as carrots and broccoli, to support vitamin intake.
Fresh, clean water must always be available.
Kakarikis living indoors require Vitamin D3 and Calcium supplementation. At VBC, we use Breeders Secret Sunglo.

Breeding Kakarikis
Kakarikis are considered easy to breed.
Breed 2–3 times per year between November and January
Reach maturity as early as six months, though breeding is recommended from one year
Lay 2–6 eggs per clutch
Eggs hatch after approximately 26 days
Chicks leave the nest at 6–7 weeks
A cockatiel-sized nest box lined with parrot nesting material is suitable.
We also sell breeding pairs, typically priced $199–$299.
Kakarikis are easy to sex, and our experienced staff can guarantee a male and female pair.
About Kakariki Parrots
Kakarikis are native to New Zealand and are known for their confident and playful nature.
They are:
Easygoing and warm-hearted
Very active and playful
Known for swinging upside-down inside their cages
Kakarikis are good-natured, suitable for families, and easy to train. They can learn several words and enjoy regular interaction.
They grow to around 25 cm and typically live 15–20 years.
Common Colour Variations
Green with red above the eyes and red cheeks
Lutino (yellow with red markings)
Pied (green with yellow patches)
Cinnamon (lighter, pale green colouring)
