Sun Conure Pricing
This page lists Sun Conure pricing in two ways:
It states an overall range of $399–$999, and
It also lists pricing by raising type below.
Fledgling — from $399
A fledgling is raised by its parents. It is still a baby but has left the nest and is flying in an aviary. These birds can be taught to talk; however, they are difficult to train unless highly experienced.
Handled Baby — from $599
A baby that has been fed by its parents, and when it is a couple of weeks away from leaving the nest, we spend time handling it (about 15 minutes, 3–4 times per day) up until it fledges. Then the baby is taken inside the house and with more human attention will become friendly. With this type of Sun Conure, constant handling is normally required to keep the bird perfectly tame.
Hand Reared Baby — $799–$1199
This is described here as the best way to invest in a baby companion pet for lots of love and fun times.
Availability note
Another variable is the season and availability of babies. Off breeding season means there can be scarcity and the price may be higher.
Hand Rearing a Baby Sun Conure Takes Lots of Work
When you see a happy, confident hand-reared baby Sun Conure in our store, it’s the result of 6–8 weeks of dedicated care. From very early on they require specialised formula feeds, often five times a day, including early mornings and late nights. Every feed has to be the right temperature and consistency.
Beyond feeding, each bird needs daily handling and interaction so they grow up trusting people. As they grow, chicks must be carefully weaned onto solid foods, encouraged to perch, and supported through key development stages with constant attention to behaviour, health, and development.
By the time a bird is ready to leave its hand rearer for a new home, it has already been fed, nurtured, socialised, and guided through its most important stages of life—resulting in a friendly, well-adjusted bird.
Sun Conure Dietary Requirements
The best diet for your Sun Conure (as described on this page) is:
A quality small parrot seed mixture
High protein crumbles or pellets
Fruit and vegetables
Fresh, clean water is a must. If you keep your Sun Conure inside, a Vitamin D3 and Calcium supplement is required. At VBC we use ‘Avian Sunglo’.

Sun Conure Cages and Accessories
A cage is important for your Sun Conure and should have enough room for your bird to flap and stretch its wings. A minimum size of 60 × 60 × 60 cm is recommended. More importantly, a playground or an area where your bird can have freedom is helpful.
Sun Conures need to be out of their cage to be kept the friendliest, and at VBC we have a variety of playgrounds and stands available.
Breeding Sun Conures
Sun Conure parrots are ready to breed after two years of age. They produce from July to February and lay two eggs, which hatch after 28–30 days. Chicks leave the nest at 11–12 weeks and are ready for new homes 2–3 weeks after leaving the nest.
A parrot-sized nest box approximately 30 × 70 cm, lined with parrot nesting material available from VBC, is suitable to use for breeding.
If you are interested in breeding Sun Conure parrots, your investment for a pair specifically for breeding will range from $799–$999.
Sun Conure Parrots
Sun Conure parrots are native to South America, from countries such as Brazil and Guyana. They have great personalities; both male and female talk well, but they can be a bit noisy. Belonging to the Aratinga family, these birds are very amusing, easy to train, and can learn a few simple words.
They can grow up to 30 cm long and live between 15 and 30 years. Their plumage is bright yellow and orange with splotches of green and blue on their wings and tail. There is no visual difference between male and female.
Juvenile birds have green plumage which turns yellow and orange as they mature.
