Suppose you are in the market for a nest box to breed your birds then you have found the best place. Here at Victorian Bird Company we sell Nesting Boxes of all different sizes that will be perfect for your birds. We are in Melbourne’s West about 15 minutes over the West Gate Bridge, also at Mountain Gate Shopping Centre on Ferntree Gully Road and Norlane, Geelong. Box prices range from $15 for the budgie or lovebird up to $60 for the large parrot nesting boxes.

NOTE: The wood used to manufacture Nesting Boxes is very important to the health of your birds and how long the nesting box will last. High grade thick plywood is used which will last for many years. MDF or chipboard which can deteriorate quickly and could pose a health risk to your birds.

Recommended High Quality Nesting Boxes

Nesting Boxes are an important part for the successful breeding of birds; it is a safe place for them to raise their young where their babies will be warm and protected. It is essential that you use a high quality Nesting Box of the correct size for your parrot so you don’t create any problems such as chicks falling out of nests.

Regarding Budgies we recommend a small Budgie Box at $15 that is a minimum of 25 x 17 x 15cm. For Lovebirds and some of the smaller parrots we recommend using a Lovebird nest box which range from $15 to $18 with a size of 20 x 17 x 27cm.

Cockatiels, Conures, Lorikeets, Kakarikis, and parrots of a similar size, we recommend using a Medium size Nesting Box at $35 with a size of 17 x 20 x 40cm. For larger parrots such as Alexandrines, Ringnecks and some of the bigger parrots, we recommend using a Parrot nest box at $50-60 that is a minimum size of 25 x 25 x 50cm high.

Nesting Boxes Melbourne | Parrot Nest Box

Preferred Nesting Materials of Different Parrots

Most of our parrots use a Parrot Nesting Material for their nest. This is available in our store and is a mixture of peat moss and wood shavings. By using this type of nesting the eggs stay moist and the hatchability rate is a lot higher than using just shavings or sawdust where the eggs tend to dry out.

Some other parrots prefer to use different materials for their nest. Lovebirds like to use palm fronds; Masked and Fischer Lovebirds carry single strips of this with their beaks, Peach-Faced Lovebirds shred small pieces and tuck them into their back feathers before taking it back to their nest.
